Front fender finished, Mustang skirted seat in place, late mdel 13.5 inch shocks mounted, forwards bolted on temporarily to check fit, and the new chrome risers and SS buckhorns from late model sportster installed. The rolling chassis is almost finished. Still waiting for signal lights to come in. Then I can wire up the ass end, and get the bench cleared off to get going on the engine.
Tech notes: V-Twin's shock stud kit to adapt late model and aftermarket shocks to earlier sportsters requires that the bottom studs be cut down by about 3/8 to 7/16 inch on the end which bolts to swing arm, and then threaded an additional 1/2 inch in order to look decent on both sides, and clear the sprocket on the right side.
The forwards were picked off of ebay, listed as fitting something like 58 to 74 sportsters, however, beware! Do not buy the cable operated forwrds if you do not currently have a cable operated rear brake. In fact, don't buy this set at all if you can help it. Frankly, it stinks. I'm not sure of who the actual manufacturer is, but I see it listed in most of the major cycle parts catalogs.
I will be creating some custom parts to make these things actually work, and I'll try to get good photos of what I do. I may even be cutting, welding and either painting, or rechroming portions of the set.
I swear, I will get some decent photos before this is over. :)
